Short script: Paula

This short script excerpt is talking about Hong Kong phenomenon that I have discovered--people love taking photos like selfie and food pictures through their phones and upload onto social media application to show to others.

In this script, Paula got a 'not so good' attitude which does not mean Hong Kong people are like that.
This character is just my imagination, so no need to take it personal.

Enjoy this script!

“How come we need to wait for so long?” Paula murmured.

“This restaurant is recommended by ‘OpenRice’, lots of people would queue for it,” Iris said.

Paula got a very impatient look and stared at the number of the waiting queue display.

“Sure we can eat delicious food when we enter in,” Daisy said.

“I agree,” Iris replied and smiled broadly.

Paula took out her cell phone and took a ‘selfie’.

To present the photo better, Paula clicked in the photo editor application, ‘MeituPic’ to fix the flaw on her face. She removed the acne, whitened her face, and filtered the photo with radiance effect.

Now Paula got a smile on her face.

Before uploading this photo to the social media application, Instagram, Paula got to write a caption about that and add hash tag to gain people attention to her photo.

Although it is necessary to wait for a long time, it doesn’t matter
‘Cause we can eat yummy food
Really looking forward to it XD

“Oh, I almost forgot,” Paula said.

“What have you forgot?” Iris asked Paula.

“The location of this restaurant is …” Paula soliloquized.

Paula located the restaurant’s whereabouts in her photo.

Iris looked at Paula impatiently but did not say anything.

“Okay, done,” Paula said and pressed the ‘Sent’ button to upload.

After 15 minutes, Paula, Iris and Daisy entered into the restaurant.

“Oh geez! We’re like standing there for 45 minutes. That’s exhausted,” Paula complained to Iris and Daisy.

Although what Paula said was exaggerated, Daisy went along with Paula since she did not want to argue with Paula.

“Yes, that’s right!” Daisy replied.

They then sat in comfortable ‘sofa-like’ seats and started to look at the restaurant menu.

They all flipped the menu and decided what they should eat.

“Hmm… How about eating the ‘Organic brown rice with Pumpkins and Chestnuts’?” Daisy said.

“Eww... That’s gross!” Paula answered quickly.

“How about ‘Beef Burger with Bacon and Cheddar Cheese’?” Iris said.

“Nah…Too fat for girls and this dish… not special enough,” Paula replied.

“What do you think then?” Iris asked Paula.

“I think ‘Handmade Linguine with Crabmeat, bell pepper, caper and white wine sauce’ that one would be nice and good looking for photos,’” Paula said it with a cheerful smile.

“Paula selected food by considering good looking for photos only,” Iris looked at Paula but did not say it out loud, of course.

When the Linguine was served, Daisy was ready for eating. Daisy picked up her fork and wanted to mix the spaghetti with the sauce.

But, Paula stopped Daisy.

“Wait Daisy,” Paula told Daisy.

“I need to take photos first,” Paula continued.

“Oh the photos thing,” Iris looked at Daisy and said.

“Alright, just go take it,” Daisy replied.

Paula used different angles to take the pictures of Linguine.

Closer…wider…more left…focus…

Wider…closer…more right…focus…

Iris and Daisy both stared at Paula.

“I am so hungry right now,” Daisy complained.

“Can we eat now?” Daisy continued.

Paula took the last photo.

“Hmm… Now you can,” Paula smiled.

“Thanks!” Daisy said gently.

Iris and Daisy started to eat the Linguine.  They finished half of it, but Paula still has not started to eat.

“Why don’t you eat?” Daisy asked Paula.

“I need to edit the photo and upload it to Instagram,” Paula replied.

“There are lots of procedure in order to upload it. Don’t you know?” Paula continued.

“Okay…” Daisy said.

“The food is getting cold, Paula” Iris told.

“I almost finish…Wait for 2 minutes,” Paula replied.

After 2 minutes, Paula was still thinking about and writing the caption.

OMG! This Linguine tastes fantastic! I love it!

“Okay I can eat now,” Paula pressed ‘Sent’ in her cell phone and replied.

Iris checked her Instagram on cell phone. She looked at both the photo and caption. She felt weird about what she wrote.

“You haven’t eaten yet. How can you know it is delicious?” Iris asked.

“Fake it up, Iris,” Paula said.

“If it looks good, it must taste good,” Paula continued.

“What?” Iris could not hide her disagreement but did not say out loud. She continued eating her Linguine.
